Plowden Arms wins first Brakspear Best Christmas Tree competition
January 23, 2014
The Plowden Arms at Shiplake near Henley was the winner of the first-ever Brakspear Best Christmas Tree competition, which ran in December. Congratulations to tenants Ruth Peters and Matt Woodley, who won two firkins of Brakspear Bitter, and to the runners-up Sean and Ness Arnett at the Blackwood Arms near Burnham, who received one firkin.
The Plowden Arms tree, tastefully decorated with classic gold and red baubles and beads, was judged the best entrant into the competition, which was open to all Brakspear pubs. To enter, pubs were asked to send a photo of their Christmas tree into the Brakspear head office in Henley.
Brakspear marketing manager Emma Sweet said, “Many of our pubs put lots of time and effort into decorating their pubs to create a welcoming festive atmosphere for customers over Christmas and New Year.
“This is the first year we’ve run the Best Christmas Tree competition and we were really impressed by the standard of entries that came in. Clearly, many of our tenants have a flair for design, and choosing our winners wasn’t easy, but in the end the understated elegance of the Plowden Arms tree won the day.
“We’ll definitely be running the competition again over Christmas this year.”
