Brakspear Induction Course:

THE ESSENTIALS FOR THOSE ENTERING THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY

This three-day course is for those new to hospitality, new to running their own business, or those wanting a refresher. The course covers the areas of management responsibility that are essential to run a successful licenced retail business including employment law, financial management, stock control, staff recruitment, training, and marketing and merchandising.

Online compliance courses

Through our partnership with CPL Training, Brakspear tenants, lessees and their teams have access to a wide range of online training courses covering key areas such as health and safety, food safety, licensing, customer service and staff development.

Courses are available for £199 per site per year, with Brakspear contributing half the cost, meaning it costs just £99 per year for unlimited staff access. All training is completed online, allowing your team to learn at a time that suits them without leaving the pub.

Courses include topics such as Food Safety, Fire Safety Awareness, Age Verification, Allergen Awareness, Conflict Management, Manual Handling, GDPR, Craft Beer Styles and Emergency First Aid, along with many more to support day-to-day pub operations.

The Brakspear Hive

The Brakspear Hive is our dedicated online resource library designed to support Brakspear business owners and their teams in running successful pubs.

Through the Hive our business owners can access price lists for beers, wines, spirits and packaged drinks, order Brakspear point of sale materials such as glassware and personalised posters and explore a growing library of resources to support your business.

The platform also provides access to drinks promotions, social media support, design and print services, website design and hosting, and exclusive discounts to help your pub thrive.

Pre-Entry Induction Day

Our Pre-Entry Induction Day gives you the opportunity to meet the Brakspear teams who will support you throughout your journey. You’ll spend time with your Business Development Manager as well as our marketing, finance, property and supplier teams. It’s a great chance to ask questions and gain the guidance you need before stepping into your new pub.

We are dedicated to supporting our business owners every step of the way, with as much or as little support as they need. From the moment you apply, our Talent Attraction Manager will guide you through the recruitment process. Once you have found the perfect pub, you will be paired with a dedicated Business Development Manager who will help you shape your business plan and support you in building a successful pub business.

Behind the scenes, our friendly Head Office team is always on hand to help, offering expert support across marketing, credit control, finance, property, and interior design.

Useful Resources

BII – British Institute of Innkeeping

The BII is a professional body that supports individuals across the licensed hospitality industry. We cover the cost of the first year of BII membership for our new business owners, giving them access to valuable industry resources, helplines, and a network of trusted suppliers.

Tenanted code of practice

Leased code of practice

The Codes of Practice for leased and tenanted pubs set out the framework governing the business relationship between pub companies and tenants operating tied public houses.

We abide by these Codes of Practices, and would advise reading over them.

PEAT

To get started, all new applicants must complete the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) Pre-Entry Awareness Test (PEAT), which costs £100 + VAT. This course helps you understand the agreement you are considering, prepare for interviews with the pub company and make informed commercial decisions before taking on a pub.
