Brakspear microbrewery recruits to meet demand
March 9, 2015

Brakspear’s Bell Street Brewery in Henley is recruiting a brewing assistant as business booms at the microbrewery, which opened just under two years ago.
The appointee will assist head brewer Malcolm Mayo to run the brewery, by taking on a range of duties including racking, cleaning and delivering beers brewed at the Bell Street Brewery to Brakspear pubs, mainly in the Henley area. He or she will also have opportunities to learn how to brew, alongside Mayo.
The Bell Street Brewery is a four-barrel microbrewery, sited at the back of the Bull on Bell Street pub. Its main output is Brakspear Special, the popular 4.3% ABV classic bitter that was brewed in Henley for 40 years and restored to the town with the microbrewery’s opening. Other ales are brewed there as required, including, most recently, Brakspear Old – another revived historical favourite. Last year, ‘Blooming’ Marvellous’, was brewed at the microbrewery to support Henley’s ‘In Bloom’ campaign, and ‘Two Bells’, commemorated the first Henley Club to Pub Swim.
Mayo said, “The Bell Street Brewery enables us to ensure a constant supply of Brakspear Special to our local pubs, to the delight of the beer’s many fans in and around Henley. In addition, the size of the brewery gives us a lot of flexibility in brewing ‘one off’ beers, either in response to customer demand, like Brakspear Old, or to celebrate local events.
“Demand for our beers means we are brewing almost to capacity now, so I need some help keeping on top of the brewery and getting beer into our pubs. It’ll be good to fill this new role, which is ideal for someone interested in learning about craft brewing.”
