Brakspear pub the White Horse in King’s Sutton, run by tenants Julie Groves & Hendrik Dutson has been named Gastro Pub of the Year in the Oxfordshire Restaurant Awards 2014.  The win is made doubly impressive by the fact that Julie & Hendrik only took the keys to the White Horse a year ago and this is their first pub as tenants.

The White Horse took the Gastro Pub/Brasserie title ahead of eight other shortlisted eateries in the county, including several well-known gastro pubs. All finalists were judged by an expert panel and the winners announced at a special dinner held at Oxford Town Hall.

Julie said, “We were happy just to reach the shortlist, so to be named Gastro Pub of the Year was amazing – in fact, we still can’t quite believe it! The certificate will take pride of place in the pub and is a great way to mark our first anniversary here.

“We’re grateful to our wonderful team at the White Horse, whose skill and hard work have contributed hugely to the pub’s success.”

Tom Davies, Brakspear chief executive, said, “Julie & Hendrik may have been surprised by their win, but we’re not: they have been outstanding operators from Day 1 at the White Horse, serving excellent food and drink with the highest standards of customer service.

“We’re delighted to have worked with Julie & Hendrik for the past year and look forward to supporting them for many more years – and doubtless several more awards.”

The Oxfordshire Restaurant Awards aim to recognise and celebrate excellence, to enhance the quality of the dining experience across the county and to improve the image of Oxfordshire as a dining destination. www.oxfordshirerestaurantawards.co.uk
