The perfect reason to retreat to the pub

A Staines pub is set to reopen next month with a new name, new look and new food and drink.

The Anglers Retreat on Staines Road will be renamed the Retreat when it reopens at the end of November. It is currently closed for a complete refurbishment by owners Brakspear, with the aim of updating the pub and turning it into a stylish but welcoming ‘local’ offering drinks and dining for residents and workers in and around Staines.

The Retreat is being designed with several distinct areas that make it the perfect spot for any number of occasions. Drinkers can sup a pint or two at the bar while watching sport on the big screens, or enjoy a coffee or a cocktail with friends in the cosy snug area.

In the dining area, an open kitchen with wood-fired oven allows customers to watch their Italian-style pizza being made and cooked. Steaks will also feature large on the menu, with diners able to choose their preferred size and cut of 100-day aged beef. The menu, still being designed, will also offer a range of other main courses and snacks, allowing guests to grab a quick bite or enjoy a meal with family or friends in the Retreat’s relaxed, informal atmosphere.

On Sundays customers are invited to relax and ‘take the hassle out of roasts’ by dining from the new carvery. With a selection of three meats accompanied by roast potatoes and all the trimmings, it’s perfect for those who want to watch the match in the bar end, or enjoy family time in the dining area.

Tom Davies, Brakspear chief executive, said, “The new pub is starting to take shape with new colours on the walls and new flooring and lighting going in. Our regulars are going to find it looks very different to the pre-refurbishment version, but we’re confident they’ll love their new local, and we’ll attract lots of new customers as well.

“The Retreat will remain at heart a locals pub, where you can relax over a drink or bite to eat, read the papers, watch the match or catch up with friends. We all lead such busy lives, but here you can take time out of your schedule and unwind.

He added, “We spent a while thinking about what to call the pub after reopening, and realised we already had a name that was almost perfect.  We will still welcome any anglers who want to drop in, but the new, broader name really sums up what we want to offer to the local community and we look forward to opening our doors to them next month.”

The Retreat is recruiting full and part-time bar and kitchen staff and when open will have a team of 30 people.
