Remembering George Michael
January 23, 2017
The Catherine Wheel in Goring has become a focal point for fans to remember George Michael after his sad death on Christmas Day. The singer-songwriter lived in Goring and was a regular at the pub.
Co-licensee Michelle Brachet said, “Fans have come from all over the world to pay their respects. Many have wanted to sit in George’s chair in the pub, for example, or order his favourite meal of scampi.”
The Catherine Wheel team is working with the George Michael fan club on a big commemorative event in the summer. Michelle said, “The pub has always held a midsummer party, so we were planning that for 24th June, which is the day before what would have been George’s birthday. So it’s going to be a much larger event, for up to 1,000 people including fans as well the Goring community.”
