Blooming Marvellous! Brakspear beer raises £800 for Henley in Bloom campaign
Henley pub operator and brewer has presented a cheque for £800 to Henley in Bloom. The monies were raised from sales of Brakspear’s Blooming Marvellous ale, created to support Henley’s ‘Going for Gold’ campaign in this year’s Britain in Bloom competition.
Blooming Marvellous, a 4.3% golden ale with floral aromas, was brewed throughout June at Brakspear’s Bell Street Brewery. For every pint sold, 20p was donated to the Going for Gold campaign.
Sales of Blooming Marvellous reached 4,000 pints – double the volume Brakspear originally predicted selling when they launched the beer. It was sold in Brakspear’s 10 pubs in central Henley, as well as one non-Brakspear pub, the Bird in Hand, which wanted to support the cause.
Brakspear marketing manager Emma Sweet said, “We’re delighted with the response to Blooming Marvellous, which shows the strength of support for the Going for Gold campaign, as well as the beer’s superb drinkability during the recent warm weather.
“Blooming Marvellous was popular among local residents, as well as many visitors to the town over the Regatta, who wanted to sup a local beer while enjoying the festival atmosphere. We’re already planning to brew it again in June next year.
“We’re very pleased to be presenting this cheque to Henley in Bloom and know that they will put it to good use improving the floral displays in the town ahead of the visit by the Britain in Bloom judges.”
Marisa Francini, Henley in Bloom coordinator, who helped to create Blooming Marvellous with the Brakspear brewing team, said, “We’re very grateful to Brakspear for brewing Blooming Marvellous, and to the many drinkers in Henley who bought a pint of it to support the Going for Gold campaign. We hope to repay everyone’s efforts by winning a Gold medal in Britain in Bloom 2014.”
