Pooch Paw-secco sees Leicester Arms shortlisted for award
The Leicester Arms in Penhurst, Kent, has made it to the final of the Great British Pub Awards, in the best dog friendly pub category.
The ‘Pub Oscar’ awards, organised by the Morning Advertiser, received hundreds of nominations this year, making whittling down the contenders extremely challenging. Six finalists have emerged in 18 different categories, including best pub to watch sport, best sustainable pub, and best pub for families.
Laurence Bowes, proprietor at the Leicester Arms is proud to have reached the final:
“It’s very exciting to be announced as a finalist, especially considering how many pubs entered the best pub for dogs category this year! I think it’s down to how passionate we are about welcoming dogs to the Leicester Arms; they’re part of the family after all. Our team are all massive dog-lovers, in fact, we sometimes have to remind them to pay attention to the humans as well as the pets! We do everything we can to make sure both dogs and their owners are well looked after; which is why we have dog bowls dotted around the pub, dry, wet, and raw dog food available, and ‘pawsecco’ – dog friendly sparkling wine, so your pooch doesn’t feel left out while you enjoy a pint!”
The Leicester Arms’ own pub dog, Artemus has even become a key team member, as Laurence explains:
“Artemus is our gorgeous white German Shephard. He’s so friendly, and brilliant with children, other dogs, builders, and royalty alike! He’s even become part of the recruitment process – if Artemus likes you, you get the job!”
Guests further afield than the Kent area can still bring their own four-legged friend to meet Artemus, as the Leicester Arms offers accommodation; pet friendly of course. Doggy bags are available on arrival, which include a carry bag, cool mat, blanket, bowls, treats, and a pet first aid kit. Laurence comments on what makes the pub the ideal pet-cation:
“The local scenery in the area is second to none, and perfect for dog walkers looking to explore somewhere new. We love welcoming visitors to the area, and we believe reaching the final of the Great British Pub Awards is a testament to the effort we’ve made to include man’s best friend in that welcome.”
The award winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Escape to Freight Island restaurant in Manchester, on Tuesday 4th October.
