New film on beer duty

“Please take a look at the new film we are posting on our website today as part of our ongoing involvement in the industry’s campaign to freeze beer duty.

‘The Beer Story – Calling Time on Duty’ was produced by the British Beer & Pub Association and presented to the Treasury as part of the industry’s Budget submission. It puts across the case for freezing beer duty in a clear and engaging way and I’d recommend anyone who enjoys a pint, on either side of the bar, to view it.

“We have around five weeks until the Budget, so it is worth ‘one last push’ on beer duty. Please find five minutes to contact your MP, telling him how the high level of beer tax is harming your pub.   Remind him that pubs are hubs of their local communities and valuable local employers, particularly of young people. “Last year, Brakspear held a ‘Tax Free Beer Day’ in the run up to the Budget, selling beer at the price it would be without taxes. The campaign achieved extensive trade, local and national media coverage and helped to raise the profile of beer duty. Although there was no shift in Government policy on taxation last year, we believe it played a role in shifting attitudes, particularly among MPs, many of whom are now urging the Chancellor to rethink beer duty in order to save the pub. We hope that this will result in positive change before too long.”
