Brakspear pub the Little Angel in Henley-on-Thames has been named runner up in the ‘Best Thames Local’ competition.

The competition judges pubs on and around the length of the River Thames, which runs for 215 miles. Riverside pubs and those in one of 40 towns on the Thames are nominated to create an initial ‘Hot List’, which named 27 pubs this year.   Besides the Little Angel, two other Brakspear pubs, the Three Tuns in Henley and the Catherine Wheel at Goring, were included on the ‘Hot List’.

The shortlisted pubs are mystery visited by the Best Thames Local judges to find the winner and runner up.  The Little Angel was beaten to the top spot by a riverside pub in Staines.

Lolly Green, licensee of the Little Angel said, “We are delighted to have been named runner up in the Best Thames Local competition. We won the title in 2010 and have been shortlisted in previous years. Coming close to the top spot is great for the Little Angel, and for Henley-on-Thames.

“This win is a testament to our cracking team at the pub and we thank all our customers and people who voted for us”
