Hurley pub customer wins in “Pooches in Pubs” competition
November 19, 2015

A local dog owner has been presented with a charcoal drawing of her pet as a winner in the ‘Pooches in Pubs’ campaign run by Henley pub operator and brewer Brakspear.
Karen Hope, a customer at the Dew Drop pub in Hurley, was presented with the portrait of her cocker spaniel Amba, by the pub’s licensee Luke Weston. She entered the competition by sending a photo of Amba, taken in the Dew Drop, to the Pooches in Pubs Facebook page, and was selected as a winner by the Brakspear team.
Karen said, “Amba is our first puppy and we’ve only had her since July. We’d been to the Dew Drop a few times with our young children and noticed other dogs there, so we took Amba there for Sunday lunch recently, spotted the Pooches in Pubs competition and sent in a photo of her. We’re proud that our beautiful dog has won and thrilled with this lovely charcoal drawing.”
The Hopes are the second winners of a charcoal illustration, by artist Saskia Frost from Frost + Dutch, since the Pooches in Pubs campaign started in the summer. Brakspear has also handed out 80 branded water bowls and Frisbees to other cute canines.
Luke said, “Receiving the portrait of Amba clearly made Karen’s day so we were pleased to be involved in it. The Pooches in Pubs campaign is definitely reminding customers that they don’t have to leave their pet at home when they visit the Dew Drop and we always try to make dogs feel as welcome as their owners.”
Brakspear marketing manager Emma Sweet said, “We’ve been amazed by response to the Pooches in Pubs competition and we enjoy looking through the photos that are sent in by dog owners. There are an awful lot of pretty pooches out there though, so choosing a winner is quite a challenge.”
The campaign is continuing across Brakspear’s 115 dog-friendly pubs in the south east who have all been sent ‘Dogs Welcome’ posters and a handful of recipes for dog meals.
To enter the Pooches in Pubs competition, simply snap your dog in a Brakspear pub and send your photo via Brakspear Pubs Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. For more details, and to view the photos already sent in, go to www.brakspear.co.uk/woof.
