Sultanas of Swing at the Catherine Wheel

Our fifth Brakspear Jazz & Blues Festival saw thousands of music lovers visiting our pubs to enjoy the sounds of a diverse range of talented performers.

The nine-day festival in November saw our pubs showcasing 21 jazz and blues artistes who performed at free entry gigs or ‘meal and music’ events.

The Catherine Wheel staged three events over one weekend, attracting 250 people in total.

Licensee Vanessa Cooke said, “Our takings were 20% up on the previous weekend. With live music, you need to start small and build it up. It is important to get the right acts and not pay too much for them.”
