Doug Carnihan who looked very sad in his Christmas elf jumper photo has won the Henley Herald’s Christmas jumper competition to win a barrel of Brakspear Bitter (72 pints).
Yesterday Doug had a big grin on his face when he was presented with his prize at The Old Bell pub where he has been a regular for the last couple of years. The pub had a special Christmas Jumper night on Friday 18 December.
Doug said, “I turned up at the pub without one but my friend Stuart Mullins who works for the Head Partnership said he had spare one in his office which is just down the road in Bell Street. I was really shocked and delighted when I heard I had won – I don’t win anything. I suppose I had better share some of the prize with Stuart as he helped me win!”
Rob Hooton and Pamela Myles who run The Old Bell said, “We really love the Christmas festivities and the jumper night was great fun. We’re really chuffed that Doug won. At The Old Bell we like to host alternative events on different nights to other pubs locally. The next event we’re planning is our Burns Night actually on the night, on Monday 25 January.”
Emma Sweet, Marketing Manager from Brakspear said, “We loved this festive competition idea that the Herald came up with. We chose Doug because we thought he needed cheering up although we probably need to add a disclaimer that says Brakspear can’t cheer up all their customers with a free barrel of beer, as much as we’d like to! Though it’s an incentive to enter the competition next Christmas.”
