“Butchers Bikes” all set for Bath
April 9, 2015

A team of 15 staff and customers from the Butcher’s Arms at Sonning Common are limbering up for an 86-mile bike ride this Saturday, 11th April. The ‘Butchers Bikes’ are expecting to raise more than £2,000 for the Beating Bowel Cancer charity.
Licensee Rob Blues will be leading fellow-cyclists including sous chef Damien Smith and bar team member Lucie Pocinkova and 12 customers, on the 86-mile route, mainly following the Avon & Kennet Canal. They hope to complete the journey in 10-and-a-half hours and are travelling back to Sonning on Sunday, when a celebration will be held at the Butcher’s Arms from midday onwards. All are welcome and, thanks to beers donated by pub owners Brakspear, proceeds will be donated to Beating Bowel Cancer.
Rob said, “We’re looking forward to the journey, although it’s going to be an early start and a very long day. However, the weather is set fair, the route is picturesque and we’re raising money for a worthy cause, so we’re confident it will all go well and we’ll enjoy the day. ”
He added, “We’re grateful to our generous customers at the Butchers Arms, who are sponsoring us on the cycle ride and have already helped us to raise money through a quiz night and other events at the pub. We should be able to smash our £2,000 target and give more to Beating Bowel Cancer, which would be great.”
The Butchers Bikes completed a trip from Sonning to Brighton last summer, raising £2,000 which went towards building a new skate park in the village.
