An evening of ski-themed fun at the Bull on Bell Street has raised £200 for the Sue Ryder hospice in Nettlebed.

The Bull staged a Ski Party at the end of March, with £1 from every ticket sold going to Sue Ryder.  The pub team transformed the chic pub-restaurant into an Alpine ski lodge for the night with vintage skis and sledges, logs and fake snow.

The dress code was ‘strictly ski’, so goggles, salopettes and ear muffs were much in evidence, and all guests were treated to a warming shot on arrival.  Diners enjoyed a special menu featuring ski favourites such as tartiflette, fondue and sausages with sauerkraut, followed by a hot chocolate mousse with marshmallows.

The Ski Party also heralded extended opening hours for the Bull, which now trades until 2.00 am on Friday and Saturday nights.

Sophie Kilgour, general manager at the Bull, said, “A lot of our regular customers are skiers, so we thought a ski-themed party would appeal. It was really our way of thanking them for their custom and making a night at the Bull a bit special. The party was a great success, thanks to all the staff and customers who really got into the spirit of it and made the Bull feel more like a bar in the Alps than a pub in Henley!”

“We chose to raise money for Sue Ryder because they’re a local charity and do great work. We knew our customers would support fundraising for such a worthy cause.”

Sophie and the Bull team are hoping to make the Ski Party an annual event.
