Brakspear pubs embrace no and low alcohol drinks for the summer

Low and no alcohol drinks are growing fast.  An estimated 10.9% of customers choose no or low alcohol options when drinking or dining out of the home. And it’s no longer the preserve of drivers: many people are looking to moderate their alcohol consumption for health reasons and a growing number of younger consumers never drink alcohol at all.

The no and low sector grew by 47% in volume during 2023 (IWSR).  Alcohol-free, rather than low alcohol, have led growth to date and in pubs and restaurants, no or low beer and ciders account for 89% of sales followed by spirit substitutes and wines. Brakspear pubs are meeting this growing demand by expanding their range of no and low drinks.

More beer styles and draught options

In the beer and cider sectors, more pubs are offering a selection of no and low beer tyles – ales, lagers and stouts – as well as adding flavoured ciders.  Premium brands as well as mainstream choices are available, so customers can ‘trade up’ when they’re choosing alcohol-free options.

Importantly,  more pubs are adding more no and low beers and ciders on draught. This makes it much easier for pub customers to see what the no and low options are.

Having an alcohol-free beer on tap means customers can enjoy it by the pint –  an integral part of the pub experience for so many!

For wine lovers

For wine drinkers, a couple of options from Berkmann Wine Cellars offer the great taste of wine without the alcohol.  Steinbock Zero Riesling and Alcohol Free Sparkling both come from the Bockstein vineyard on the River Saar, which is classified as a Grosse Lage – the German equivalent of grand cru.

Zero Riesling is a bright, elegant wine with crunchy fruit flavours of baking apple and lemon. It’s a great match to a range of summer foods including fish, shellfish and poultry, and is especially good with Thai cuisine.

Alcohol Free Sparkling is a classic Saar sparkler: fresh and crisp with a blend of aromatic stone fruit and floral flavours, balanced by a streak of acidity. A great fizz to enjoy in a sunny pub garden.
