A right Royal reopening for Caversham pub
July 5, 2013
A Caversham pub is paying homage to Prince Charles in the month he is set to become a grandfather for the first time.
The Prince of Wales on Prospect Street reopens on Saturday 6th July with a party for local customers, celebrating its namesake and all things royal. Guests will receive Prince Charles masks on arrival, while the Great British buffet will offer regally-themed items such as Coronation Chicken, King Prawns, King Edward potato salad and Battenberg cake.
Entertainment on the night will be provided by local band Subway Monkeys, who will be filling the dance floor from 9.00 pm with their crowd-pleaser covers, and a close up magician circulating among guests.
Joint managers of the Prince of Wales, Brian Howells and Dita Kolomejevova said, “We wanted to give our reopening party a theme and Prince Charles and his family seemed to be topical and good fun. We’ve invited HRH himself to the celebrations and hope he can join us – his first grandchild is due one week later, so this could be his last chance for a pint before the hospital visits and babysitting duties kick in.”
The refurbishment at the Prince of Wales has been extensive, including a new back bar, new toilets, new carpets and tiles and redecoration throughout. A new 100″ TV screen has been installed to show live sport, while a retro ‘Wurlitzer’ jukebox will play hits old and new.
Brian said, “We’re looking forward to reopening and showing everyone the new-look Prince of Wales. We’ll be offering a menu of delicious pub food, a range of drinks including Brakspear Bitter, and we’re putting together a programme of weekly entertainment including gigs by local bands, karaoke, ‘open mic’ and poker nights.”
Dita added, “We genuinely think the Prince of Wales is now offering the best pub experience in Caversham and we welcome customers old and new to come and see for themselves.”
The Prince of Wales reopens at midday on July 6th and all are welcome to join the party.
